Now
May 2026
I’m switching up from the auto-generated now page; to some hybrid approach. The generated one is fine, but felt a bit… automated.
Key things that are happening now, as of May 2026…
- I’m 18 months into working at Beacon CRM. We’re currently working on a big migration from Postgres to Google Spanner. It’s full on, there’s much learn there.
- I’m still working out what to do and what I think about the whole AI coding thing. I can’t seem to move for talk of it at the moment. It’s making the aforementioned Spanner migration a lot quicker, but I’m still trying to work out how I want to use it.
- Church is exploring starting a morning service, kicking off in September. There’s a lot to think about in that.
- Small boy is a lot less small. He’s getting some good words in him (🍌 banana is a favourite).
- The reading list took a bit of a hit at the beginning of the year with the eighth Wheel of Time book (dragged, would not recommend), but we’ve got more traction now. Unreasonable Hospitality on the other hand was excellent (would recommend).
- I’ve somehow got back in running (5km) with a bit prompting from Beacon Run Club. I’m still yet to be convinced that it is ‘fun’. I’ve got a loop from my house and another one from the office that I’m managing once a week or so.
- After seeing a number of interesting custom firmware options for the Xteink ereader, notably CrossPoint, I’m now waiting for one to be shipped. I’m not expecting it to pull me away from paper-books, but I’m interested in a very small ereader.
- Stargate SG1 has appeared on Netflix which has become a fun rewatch. Just working my way back through that slowly.
